Bocas Del Toro

For the first time on my trip I’ve decided to accepted a job working as a bartender in lovely Bocas Del Toro, Panama. I had been offered positions as staffing in hostels in Nicaragua and Costa Rica before but within the first thirty minutes of arriving at Selina’s I knew it was the time and definitely the place to hang out for a while. Initially I decided I would be here for maybe to weeks – as of today its been six.

The benefits of working at this hostel are unbelievable. Free access to surf boards, paddle boards, island excursions, booze cruises and a free room to stay in. For me this is definitely the right way to travel. Despite not making too much money as a volunteer I have been able to save up some cash by playing guitar and tips at the bar. My goal in working here was to save enough money to cover the cost of a San Blas Islands, Panama to Cartejena, Colombia five day sailing trip and I have now accomplished that goal. Working here has allowed me to see so much more of this beautiful location and everything it has to offer from its cool surf, awesome beaches, amazing wild life and stunning islands. Working to live is the only way to live…
